I was lucky enough to be invited on an incredible Fam Trip, where Lisa Salleron and I had the opportunity to explore the stunning British Virgin Islands (BVI) aboard the luxurious Bali 5.4 catamaran, Katlo. From the moment we set sail, it was clear this would be an adventure of a lifetime.
Discover the Catamaran Adventure in the British Virgin Islands
When Lisa and I boarded Katlo, a beautiful Bali 5.4 catamaran, I knew we were in for a treat but the experience surpassed all my expectations. Katlo features three guest cabins and a separate crew quarter, offering plenty of space for everyone. What stood out the most was how the design of the boat ensures both comfort and privacy. With multiple lounging areas, everyone could find their own corner to relax, whether it was the flybridge, the forward deck, or the spacious aft platform.
Onboard, we had access to a range of water toys: paddleboards, mini SeaBobs, snorkel gear, and even a floating platform perfect for sunbathing. These touches made every moment at sea feel like a luxury playground.
A huge part of what made the trip so special was the incredible crew: Florian, our captain, and Julianna, our hostess and talented chef. From the very first day, their hospitality set the tone for the trip. Florian’s expertise and calm demeanor made every sail smooth and enjoyable, while Julianna’s cocktails and meals were nothing short of extraordinary. Her dishes were so delicious sometimes even too generous in portion!
Florian and Julianna, thank you both for making this adventure unforgettable. You truly elevated the Katlo experience!
Day 1: Sailing from Nanny Cay to Scrub Island and Cooper Island
An Exciting Start to Our BVI Adventure Aboard Katlo
Our adventure started with a smooth departure from Nanny Cay in Tortola, where we took a speed boat towards Scrub Island to meet the crew and settle into our respective cabins. The excitement was palpable as we explored the Bali 5.4 Katlo and her luxurious amenities. After getting to know the boat and crew, we were treated to a delicious welcome cocktail—what a perfect way to kick off the trip!
Once we were settled, we began our sail towards Cooper Island. Known for its picturesque beaches and crystal-clear waters, Cooper Island did not disappoint. We spent the afternoon lounging on the beach, enjoying the local cocktails, and soaking in a breathtaking sunset.
Back on the boat, we enjoyed a delicious Asian-inspired bowl for dinner, followed by a comforting chocolate and ice cream dessert. The perfect end to an unforgettable first day!
Day 2: Navigating to Mosquito Island, Necker Island, and Virgin Gorda
Exploring Private Islands and Snorkeling in the BVI
We planned to start early for our sail to Mosquito Island, but the weather had other plans. So, we set off a little later, heading toward this small, serene island that’s known for its calm beaches and scenic beauty.
From there, we sailed by the iconic Necker Island, a private island owned by Sir Richard Branson. The island’s untouched beauty and the luxury that surrounds it made it an incredible sight. We also passed by Little Necker Island, where we had a good laugh at the “fake” palm trees it’s a quirky sight that made for some fun photos!
We then made our way to Virgin Gorda, one of the most famous islands in the BVI. After a refreshing dive and paddleboarding around the fleet of boats we were with, we took some time to visit the local shops and enjoy more amazing cocktails.
In the evening, Julianna, our amazing chef, prepared her first-ever Caribbean ribs, and they were absolutely delicious! She followed it up with a sweet and smooth avocado mousse dessert with sweetened condensed milk. The perfect treat after an action-packed day.
As the night went on, we had a bit of a surprise—an enormous barracuda decided to hang out behind the boat! It stayed with us for most of the night, and while it was fascinating, I have to admit it scared me a little!
Day 3: The Baths of Virgin Gorda and Dinner at Coco Maya
Exploring Iconic Rock Formations and Dining at a Prestigious BVI Restaurant
After another delicious and hearty breakfast, we were treated to a “snack” from Julianna that could have easily been considered a full meal—mini tacos and hummus. It was the perfect bite before we set off for the day.
I made sure to take a quick swim to double-check that no barracudas were following me (the previous night’s guest had me on alert, haha!) before we sailed towards the national park of the Baths of Virgin Gorda.

The Baths are one of the most famous natural wonders in the BVI, with huge granite boulders scattered across the beach, creating a maze-like labyrinth between them. These rocks are the result of volcanic activity millions of years ago, which caused massive boulders to tumble down, forming these unique and stunning formations. Despite the rain that day, the beauty of the place was undeniable. The beaches, normally bustling with tourists, were empty—making the experience feel even more magical. The misty atmosphere added a certain charm, making the area feel even more mysterious and serene.
That evening, we had the pleasure of dining at the prestigious Coco Maya Restaurant. The culinary experience was incredible. We were treated to a variety of dishes, each more delicious than the last—homemade sushi, gyoza, marinated chicken, curry soup, Thai pasta, and so much more. Every bite was a treat! As the rain and strong winds picked up, we were grateful to be at the marina, where we could relax in the comfort of the boat after such an amazing meal.
Day 4: Sailing Back and Saying Goodbye to the BVI
A Perfect Last Day in the British Virgin Islands
For our final day in the BVI, the sun finally made an appearance! After another colorful and hearty breakfast, we set sail once again. The sea was a bit choppy, but that didn’t stop us from hoisting the sails. It was pure bliss, no engine noise, just the sound of the wind in the sails and our Caribbean playlist playing in the background. There’s something truly magical about sailing like that.
Before we had to leave, we enjoyed one last delicious cocktail and some chips, savoring every moment because none of us wanted to say goodbye just yet.
We spent some time walking around the marina, which was stunning with its modern vibe and beautiful surroundings. It was the perfect way to soak in the last views of the islands.
Afterward, we took the shuttle back to Scrub Island, bringing our relaxing and unforgettable trip to a close. It was a bittersweet ending, but one that I’ll always remember.
